How Can It Be?

We awoke last Sunday morning to another unwelcome and tragic mass shooting.
Once again lives had been taken for no reason or rhyme other than hate is brewing faster around us than we can possibly imagine.
I was reminded of the great contemporary Lauren Daigle hymn, How Can It Be?
The words are: I am guilty
Ashamed of what I've done, what I've become
       These hands are dirty
I dare not lift them up to the Holy one
       You plead my cause
       You right my wrongs
       You break my chains
       You overcome
       You gave Your life
       To give me mine
You say that I am free
       How can it be
       How can it be
See, when these things happen, I think we must first look inside ourselves and to the Creator Father, the loving Son and the Holy Spirit for help in our own depravity before we ever begin to try to understand the process that led to stone-cold killers like the one in Orlando.
What have we done to embrace the villain, the enemy, which or whom comes in many forms? What have we done to love the unlovable? What have we done to look at ourselves?
In the end, they killed Jesus. They might kill me. They might get all of us. But He will please our cause, right our wrongs, break our chains.
That’s the Good News of the Gospel.
       Try it sometime.
