Sanity leaves town

Proverbs tells us this: “I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity; Knowledge and discretion live just down the street. The Fear-of-God means hating Evil, whose ways I hate with a passion — pride and arrogance and crooked talk. Good counsel and common sense are my characteristics; I am both Insight and the Virtue to live it out. With my help, leaders rule, and lawmakers legislate fairly; With my help, governors govern, along with all in legitimate authority. I love those who love me; those who look for me find me.  Wealth and Glory accompany me - and substantial Honor and a Good Name. My benefits are worth more than a big salary, even a very big salary; the returns on me exceed any imaginable bonus. You can find me on Righteous Road — that’s where I walk — at the intersection of Justice Avenue. Handing out life to those who love me, filling their arms with life — armloads of life!"

This piece probably won’t be popular to some, but in my heart, as I watch and grieve for those who have lost lives for reasons unknown as I write this in still another mass shooting, it moves me to say that the kind of rhetoric that is being led by those who are leading us or those wanting to lead us has to stop.

I've had a difficult 10 days, well heck, three months health wise, but as I’m lying on a hospital bed, to see another mass shooting is simply too much, or close to it.

What must we do?

In the past week, I watched a discussion about gun control. It was so far left that it was a waste of air. I watched another one that was all about “they’re coming to take our guns.” Neither of those positions will fix things. Neither.

I watched sometime during this long struggle President Obama saying these kinds of things don’t happen anywhere else, while he was standing in Paris where they killed more than 100 a brief time ago. Much of the Middle East is in arms for goodness sake.

This is just too much. I would say it takes my breath away, but they’re still working on me having some to have taken away.

In the past God spoke through our ancestors, through Mama and Daddy, and then he sent Jesus.

Jesus. Only Jesus. Wisdom living next to Sanity, down the street from Knowledge and discretion. We need leaders who will lead, and not just their 25 percent who like you because you are saying incredibly stupid things and calling them fact.

The Psalmist says of God, “He rolled up his sleeves, He set things right. God made history with salvation, He showed the world what he could do. He remembered to love us, a bonus to his dear family, Israel — indefatigable love.”

That’s the bonus. Through our tears, through blood and through fear, through the pain and suffering of human kind, he gave to us a bonus — indefatigable love.”

That’s what’s coming. That’s the hope we have at this time of the year. That’s who we’re waiting on. And if there is anyone who doesn’t want to believe that to be true, if they choose another religion or no religion at all, that is their decision. To make fun of them, to use speech that can only be described as hate speech, to be fearful of kids who have never dreamed of doing something to you is simply pride and arrogance and crooked talk.

Come, Lord Jesus, Come. Take this crumbling world back.
